Butcher Block

Kitchen Countertops Butcher Block, I agree, can be very beautiful. They are made by gluing wood strips together to select create a solid piece of wood. Butcher block countertops are available in a multitude of colors and finishes. No wonder that add a certain charm and warmth to any kitchen?

A tree, a natural resource replaceable, can be transformed into an impressive block on the kitchen counter butcher. Jatoba, a hardwood tree common in Caribbean, Central and South America, is a tan / salmon color with black stripes, in their own time, becomes bright red. What a stunning kitchen worktop I would do. Red maple, white oak, black walnut and cherry are some of the other varieties of wood that shape an impressive butcher block kitchen counter. Teak and birch, which are softer and less durable woods are usually used only for decorative designs.

Clearing the beauty of the natural forest is the simple fact that wood can and develops cracks and fissures. These cracks are the result of the expansion of the wood when wet and decreased when it dries. However, these cracks can be the source of dangerous bacteria growth, which is a negative factor of all wood kitchen worktops. Special precautions to be taken when preparing raw or undercooked poultry to avoid cross-contamination of other foods that are eaten raw. Applying a layer of minerals and oils plants, lacquer or varnish should help control this problem is common with wood kitchen worktops. This coating also should help protect the butcher the kitchen counter block cutting marks left by a sharp knife.

So this is the beauty of the wood of the kitchen counters, and the maintenance high wooden kitchen worktops. This is a difficult choice.

Butcher Block?

I would like to make my own butcher block to go over my counter. Does anyone know of a place that makes custom butcher blocks, or has instructions on how to make one for me to do it myself?

You can find the designs and instructions online. Sure use hardwoods. A layer of mineral oil finish will look nice, without fear of them from going rancid, like many other oils.
