Pepper Mill

Peugeot have been making pepper mills and coffee mills for longer than they have been making cars. In 1810 the Peugeot brothers converted the factory family to produce steel and since then Peugeot has done everything from saw blades to tools, sewing machines and penny-farthing bicycles. It started to make cars until 1890.

In 1842 one of its engineers to design a mechanism specifically designed to mill peppercorns - which is not suitable for milling other spices. It can be adjusted, allowing ground pepper for every need - about a grilled steak to finely ground for delicate sauces.

Today, Peugeot pepper mills have a reputation of being the best in the world and come with a lifetime warranty. They are designed specifically for against the peppercorns are made from high quality materials and they provide a perfect consistency and grinding time after time, is the choice of the best chefs around the world.

The mills are made in § BesanÃ, in southwestern France. A propeller-double row of teeth shaped grains guides pepper and maintained during milling. Corns are cracked in half before the fine grinding process. The mechanism of the mill is made of hardened steel, a quenching process makes the grinding head as hard as a ball bearing, and it is this, and precision finishing, which gives the plant its long-term performance.

Within the mechanism, Peugeot to create two different sized slots, the first for the pipeline and the second to grind. Channeling grooves align peppercorns and crack them while grinding grooves make for fine grinding selected that can be chosen by adjusting the button factory.

Generations of experience in the manufacture of its pepper plants allows Peugeot to offer a lifetime warranty - it does not cover normal wear, misuse or accidental damage. When you are the owner of a Peugeot pepper mill, not make the mistake of using it to grind salt as salt is corrosive and can even damage the artwork that is the pepper mill Peugeot.

Milling of the salt you need to use a different mechanism that is stainless steel so it resists corrosion. It is designed to grind grain large rock or sea salt and ground provide a coarse or fine when setting the button at the mill.

The Lion symbol that is now synonymous with Peugeot was first used in factories salt and pepper in 1850. The lion was chosen to symbolize the strength and quality of pepper plants and tools.

Stewart Hersey is the Managing Director of Hersey & Sons one of the few remaining silversmiths still operating in the UK. For the first time he has married the industrial strength mechanism made by Peugeot to the beauty of his classic handmade solid silver pepper mills. The mill bodies are made in his workshop by craftsmen using traditional skills and techniques the Peugeot family would have been familiar with 150 years ago. The result is a perfect Silver Peugeot Pepper Mill.

How do you clean a pepper mill?

I have a small, stainless steel, hand mill for grinding pepper. The fund became wet and the mill is all gummed. No help on the web, although a couple of places saying, "Never wash in water." Any ideas?

This works quite well. Take a piece of bread (make sure it is fresh and not stale or hard), break into pieces, place in the mill and on. The moisture in the pan, plus the movement of leaves helps dislodge and bind the material that is stuck in it. Then melt into the trash! (If you are really stuck, you may have to repeat, but I never I needed it more than once)
